About Mitchell Tenpenny
Mitchell Tenpenny was born and raised in Nashville, Tennessee. And it comes as no surprise that his upbringing introduced him to the world of music. Through his grandmother, Donna Hilley, Tenpenny was able to meet up with songwriters Bobby Braddock and Curly Putman. These experiences gave him an early interest in songwriting, which may have led to him growing up listening to country, rock, and R&B. In fact, Tenpenny cites Vince Gill, John Mayer, and Michael Jackson as some of his major influences.
With these experiences, it comes as no surprise that when he attended Tennessee State University, he developed a keen interest in being in a band. So he graduated with a music business degree and ended up in a long-term relationship with fellow country singer Meghan Patrick.
Music career origins
But Tenpenny’s career as an artist began with the release of his debut album, Black Crow, in 2015. This release, as well as his early songwriting work with artists such as Nick Fradiani led to notable pieces like his own “Canes Creek” and a song he co-wrote, “If the Boot Fits” which was a Top 10 song. This led to him signing a publishing deal with Sony ATV Music Publishing Nashville and to the later release of his second album.
This album found fast success, debuting at #5 on the Billboard Hot Country Albums chart.
Tenpenny has since released two studio albums that have both found their own success as well as placing this artist firmly on the minds of the world’s country music fans and critics.
